Common questions
What is the VAT registration threshold?
US$25,000 (or the ZiG equivalent) of taxable supplies in any 12-month period, in place since 1 January 2024. Registration takes effect from the first day of the following month.
What is the VAT rate?
The standard rate is 15.5% from 1 January 2026, up from 15%. Exports are generally zero-rated and some supplies are exempt.
What happens after I’m registered?
You file VAT returns online, usually monthly or every two months as ZIMRA directs, and pay by the 25th of the month after the tax period. You must also keep records for at least six years and use fiscalised invoicing.
